How To Blend Mindfulness and Movement in the Music Classroom
Limited Capacity seats available

Attendees will come away from the session with step-by-step teaching processes for multiple folk dances. The process will integrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Mindfulness activities that allow students to identify and navigate their emotions. SEL is becoming more popular as our current teaching environment changes, and music educators have a unique advantage with a curriculum that allows for purposeful social interactions through creative movement and folk dance. While our focus is on SEL and Mindfulness, our activities expand folk dance and creative movement vocabulary that can readily be incorporated into any movement curriculum. With this new perspective, overall classroom environment and classroom management will improve. We hope to give attendees the confidence to integrate our practical SEL activities into their music curriculum, and to inspire an interest in Mindfulness that results in further exploration of building emotionally-aware students.
